Hearing Aid Fitting:
The day youve been waiting for has finally
arrivedyour hearing aid is ready! Were glad youre excited
because we both have a bit of work to do.
You
will be scheduled for a 1 1 1/2 hour appointment for the hearing
aid fitting, evaluation and orientation/counseling session.
First we will make sure the hearing aid fits comfortably and properly.
Then we will begin the process of adjusting the hearing aid to your hearing
loss and subjective preferences. We use real-ear probe microphone measures
to record the sound levels in your ear canal with the hearing aid in place.
This procedure not only allows real-time verification of the hearing aid
settings while modifications are being made, but also serves as an evaluation
tool in assessing the hearing aids performance. When the audiologist
is satisfied that the hearing aid settings are meeting expected targets
of amplification, modifications may be made to address your personal preferences
for such things as perceived loudness and sound quality. After all, you
will be the one wearing the hearing aid (we hope!), not us. Finally, you
will be placed in our comfortable 6 x 6 sound booth to assess
your hearing levels for tones and speech, and your speech recognition
ability in quiet and noise at normal conversational levels.
The last step in the initial fitting appointment is to acquaint you with
the functions and features of the hearing aid as well as its proper use
and care. We will spend some time practicing insertion and removal of
the device until you feel confident in your ability to handle the hearing
aid on your own at home.
At Audioscope we feel strongly that the success of hearing aid use is
dependent upon communication between the patient and the dispensing audiologist
after the hearing aid has been delivered. We schedule follow-up appointments
at one-week intervals (more or less often as determined by patient
need) during the 30-day trial period so that we can quickly assess your
progress and determine if modification or other service is needed to address
your needs or concerns.
